Oscar night!

Look who’s here!

I know I’ve been away for quite a while – forgot all about Fri-DIY and other fun blogging plans… But I’ve been traveling back and forth these weeks and had a lot of work to do so I was too tired to even think of the next post’s topic. Yeah, eventually I’ve cut myself some slack *is that the right phrase to use? sorry if not!* and decided to transform my weekly challenge into the when-i-have-enough-time-and-inspiration thing, and today I have neither. x_X Besides I’ve been awake whole night long watching Oscars 2016 ceremony *it starts at 2 AM if you’re in Ukraine as I am* so that only added up to my squeezed-lemon mood. However, it was a fun night – I really enjoy watching Red Carpet and Ceremony, that’s like my favorite tradition since I was little. πŸ™‚ All that dresses..) By the way, this year was a bit dull in fashion for me so no favorite Oscar dress *except for Naomi Watts’ maybe..)*

But Oscars are not only about dresses for me. I loooove predicting the winners. And yes, I terrrrribly suck at it! πŸ˜› But I still love to do it every year without the slightest trace of shame πŸ˜‰ I’ve been a responsible girl this time and watched 11 movies of 22 nominated *I mean only feature films* so I definitely had my favorites. The biggest revelation for me was “Room”: amazing cast, powerful screenplay, great directing. I’m very happy that Brie Larson received the award in the Best Actress nomination – I really liked her since I’ve seen “Short Term 12”, another great movie. And Jacob Tremblay…) The cutest little talent I’ve ever seen πŸ™‚ And the main word here – talent.

So that was my first favorite. Well, maybe not the first, but one of πŸ™‚ ‘Cause we all know the first one πŸ˜‰ I considered Leonardo DiCaprio a great actor since I’ve first seen “What’s eating Gilbert Grape” movie. He was amazing. And there are lots of other movies apart from “Titanic” that prove he knows what to do on screen) I don’t think that Hugh Glass was his best role, but one of the most powerful for sure. Well. we all know he’s just deserved it. πŸ˜‰ And speaking of “Revenant”, another favorite for me – Emmanuel Lubezki. That gorgeous nature and chasing and diving and don’t let me even start on “Birdman”! So woohoo, that’s a great win! At least something I guessed right πŸ˜‰

There was another nomination I had high hopes for but unfortunately it didn’t work out. I’m talking about Johann Johannsson and his awesome “Sicario” soundtrack. But first of all: Emily Blunt in this movie is AWESOME. And now back to Oscars πŸ˜‰ *Why wasn’t she nominated anyway? Eh..* When I first heard the “Beast” tune from “Sicario” I immediately felt I’m gonna love this movie. And I did. Superb acting combined with harsh reality portrayal – it was a mix just right for my gloomy late winter mood. And apart from Blunt-Brolin-Del Toro’s great acting that musical theme was truly the best part of it. Yeap, it still gives me the chills.) However the award went to Ennio Morricone – and frankly I can’t blame people at the Academy for it. Well, it’s Ennio! πŸ˜‰ So let’s just hope that there’s more to come from Johann – and someday he’ll definitely win!

So that were my favorite Oscar nominees and winners – and I’m really looking forward to hear about yours!)) Was “Spotlight” really the Best Picture for you? Do you think that Hugh Glass is DiCaprio’s best performance? And are you as afraid of the “Beast” as I am?)))

I’d be glad to read your comments! πŸ™‚

What’s up? :P

I missed last week’s Fri-DIY – sorry! – so I feel like I have to write something today. My Commision Hell Days transformed into weeks, I’m tired and exhausted and I have lots of work to do this evening – but no, no excuses! So, say hello to the one and only Insane-freelance-illustrator-what’s-up-list! And yes, sometimes it’s shorter than the title)) But at least not this time, phew! So, what’s up with Zhe? πŸ˜‰

1 . My second interview was published online! It’s in Ukrainian, but you can still check out the pictures πŸ˜‰ And here’s the first one – just in case) Oh my, I am a braggart!) ^_^

2 . I finally finished my children’s magazine monthly commission: somehow I wasn’t able to force myself to work for 4 or 5 days – even with the whole illustration envisioned in my head. It happens sometimes and I hate it! But luckily I was able to get it done on time – can’t show you anything, sorry) But I’m so relieved!

3 . However I can show you this instead – my first solo linocut print! The first attempt to do it alone at home and I can clearly see lots of flaws – but now I know for sure that it’s something I definitely want to improve myself in. It’s not an easy process but sooo relaxing…)

4 . Back to work commission again) But a fun one! So, recently I’ve been asked to draw the logo for the most wonderful client I could imagine – the owner of the BOOK STORE! *yaaaaaaay!* I don’t think I have to explain why I was so excited to do it πŸ˜‰ You can check out the result on the book store’s FB page or it’s site) Understandably I got a little drifted away and created not only the logo but all the patterns, cards and bookmarks – and it actually looks so cool)) Can’t wait to see all the printed stuff with my own eyes!

5 . And I really need the 5th point just to make a perfectionist in me happy – even if I have no more news to share))

So that’s it for today) And what’s up with you? πŸ˜‰

Three Day Quote Challenge. The Final Day!

I don’t know if I manage to post Fri-DIY today – my excuses are confidential but reasonable, trust me – but at least I can post the final quote on my blogging Quote Challenge. So, without further ado…)

Italy will return to the splendors of Rome, said the major. I don’t like Rome, I said. It is hot and full of fleas. You don’t like Rome? Yes, I love Rome. Rome is the mother of nations. I will never forget Romulus suckling the Tiber. What? Nothing. Let’s all go to Rome.

Ernest Hemingway, A Farewell to Arms”

And I have nothing to add. πŸ˜‰

Three Day Quote Challenge. Day 1

I couldn’t resist this blogging challenge – not only because I was nominated by the Queen of Challenges – Olivia – but simply because I looove reading. And I already have a few favorite quotes in stock so that seemed like an easy one.)

When I think of my favorite quotes there’s one that immediately pops up in my head. I’ve read the book in russian and it actually took me ages on the Internet to find an actual sentence in english – but I did and it’s as marvelous as I remember it. Quite a sentence, you say! No, not just a sentence. Masterpiece.

Lucas could not help imagining this procession of walkers, all of them poor and battered, wearing old coats too small or too large for them, dragging children who could not or would not walk, all marching along Rivington Street, impelled by someone or something that pushed them steadily forward, slowly but inexorably, so it only seemed as if they moved of their own will; all of them walking on, past the houses and stables, past the taverns, past the works and into the river, where they would fall, one after another after another, and continue to walk, drowned but animate, on the bottom, until the street was finally empty and the people were all in the river, trudging along its silty bed, through its drifts of brown and sulfur, into its deeper darks, until they reached the ocean, this multitude of walkers, until they were nudged into open water where silver fish swam silently past, where the ocher of the river gave over to inky blue, where clouds floated on the surface, far, far above, and they were free, all of them, to drift away, their coats billowing like wings, their children flying effortlessly, a whole nation of the dead, dispersing, buoyant, faintly illuminated, spreading out like constellations into the blue immensity.

Michael Cunningham, “Specimen Days”

And it’s perfect.

The Thing about the Thing for Things

First of all I have to tell you: I don’t learn from my mistakes.

Brain: “Let’s make something quick and easy, Zhe!”

Hands: “Of course! How about this strange thing to contain other strange things to put on the shelf with the previous strange things we’ve made? And let’s cover ourselves in glue and paint, yay!”

Whatever.

So i’ve decided to reuse my old hand cream jar. Here it is.

Liebster Award, here’s Johnny!

I meant “Here I come!” – but that “Johnny”-thing sounded so dramatic, I couldn’t resist)) πŸ˜›

Recently I’ve been invited to take part in the blogging challenge called “Liebster Award” – a cool way for beginners *like me!* to declare themselves in the WordPress community and for all of us to get acquainted with interesting blogs all around the world. I was nominated by the charming Olivia – you need to check out her blog! Not because I just have to mention the person who nominated me, no – her journal is a real delight independently of that. A fan of coffee, books and stationery – she’s made her “Olive Garden” a super cozy place to hang out at! Therefore, don’t miss it πŸ™‚

liebster-award.jpeg

So, Liebster Award – what does it mean? It means I have to answer 10 questions Olivia came up with and then invent my own 10 questions for a few fellow bloggers to answer. Let the fun begin!

1 . How did receiving the Liebster Award make you feel?

It’s an award – seriously, AWARD – I felt great! πŸ™‚ Although that’s just an answer-question thing, but still – they named it right)) And now I have a badge – an award AND a badge! *dancing*

2. Why did you start blogging?

Three reasons: promotion, language practice and oh-my-life-is-so-boring-I-have-to-do-something!

3. What is your blogging inspiration?

Likes&comments – yeap, I’m that kind of person)) I like this feeling when I know that someone from the other corner of the world actually read my post) *or didn’t actually read it but still pressed “like” – that counts too)*

4 . What do you like to do when you have absolutely no other obligations?

Watch movies! I’m a big cinema-fan so a non-stop movie marathon is a perfect choice.)

5 . Who is your favorite fictional character?

That’s a tough one…) Remus Lupin, I guess.

6 . Which song would you choose as your life’s soundtrack?

Man, it gets harder and harder) How can I choose one song??) Let me think… Cat Power “The Greatest” – and I don’t know why) πŸ˜›

7 . What would you change about yourself if you could?

I’d get rid of my anxiety – it really exhausts me sometimes.

8 . What do you like about yourself?

My sense of humor) and… no, just that))

9 . What is the first thing on your bucket list?

Don’t really have it – not sure that there’s something out there I would hugely regret not doing… I’m boring) Visiting Iceland maybe?..

10 . Where is your happy place?

“My legacy” by Anastas Branica. *And if you haven’t read “Sitničarnica “Kod sreΔ‡ne ruke” by Goran PetroviΔ‡ you really should! Hope there’s english edition printed already*

Phew! Now it’s time for me to post my questions are here they are:

  1. How did you end up blogging? πŸ˜‰
  2. What inspires you to write posts?
  3. Do you see yourself still blogging in 3 years?
  4. Books or movies? Tom or Jerry? “Star Wars” or “The Lord of the Rings”?))
  5. What fictional character would you drink a cup of tea with?
  6. What period of history you would like to live in?
  7. What’s your ratio of virtual vs. real life?
  8. Where did you last travel to?
  9. Where do you want to travel in future?
  10. Describe your perfect morning.

I proudly nominate Kritika, Daniel, Amanda and Kevin to join me in this interesting challenge! Feel free to refuse but if you accept it I’ll eagerly wait for your answers and read them with great pleasure πŸ™‚ *and please leave a comment here whether you’re accepting the nomination or not*

Cheers!
